Protests of Farmers in Italy, Tractors reached Rome

Italian farmers continued their protest against national and European agricultural policies today and reached Rome with tractors.

About 500 tractors passed through the streets of Pavia today in the province of the same name in the Lombardy region, while about 150 tractors are located in the town of Orte, about an hour away from Rome.

One of the protest leaders, Danilo Kalvani, said that only farmers without vehicles will participate in tomorrow’s protest in Rome.

“After that, another protest will follow when tractors will pass through the streets of Rome, as was the case in other European cities,” Kalvani said, according to the Italian news agency “ANSA”.

Italian farmers are protesting against cheap imports, high costs and low prices of agricultural products.

“We are on the side of the protesters. They are protesting against Europe, not the Italian authorities,” said Italian Tourism Minister Daniela Santanshe.

Similar protests by farmers took place across Europe, including Germany, France, Belgium and Greece.
