Public Health Institutes in BiH are planning to destroy Thousands of Vaccines against Covid

The Institute of Public Health of the Republika Srpska (RS) has issued a public call for services of taking over, storage, and final disposal of medical, chemical, and pharmaceutical waste, and as part of this activity, 55.000 expired vaccines against the coronavirus will be destroyed.

”So far, the expiration date for 55.000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines has passed, which, when donated, had the date of 30 to 60 days, ” it was pointed out by the Institute.

The public call is conceived in such a way that, if necessary, medical waste is successively destroyed based on the unit price expressed per kilogram of that waste.

”According to that, we still do not know how much the destruction of vaccines will cost, ” it was said by the RS Institute of Public Health.

The procurement notice states that the duration of the agreement is two years and that the estimated total value of that agreement without VAT is 49.950 BAM. The deadline for receipt of bids or requests to participate is tomorrow, September 27th, at noon.

”At the invitation of the ordering party, the executor will take over the waste at the ordering party’s location (Public Health Institution – Institute of Public Health of the RS Banja Luka and Regional Centers Foca, East Sarajevo, Zvornik, and Trebinje) and then transport, store, and dispose of it at the location approved by the competent ministry,” it was emphasized in the announcement.

To recall, the deadline for 55.000 vaccines has expired in RS,and it was written about it at the beginning of September. As it was announced at the time, it is not excluded that a similar scenario will happen in the Federation of BiH (FBiH), where 340.183 doses will be unusable next month.

As the RS Government announced on Thursday, since February this year, when the immunization process began, 542.861 vaccines against the coronavirus have been delivered to health institutions in the RS, until September 21st, of which 296.219 doses of vaccines are given as the first dose of vaccination and 246.642 doses given as a second dose, eKapija writes.
