Rainforest Perucica nominated for the World Heritage List of UNESCO

PerucicaThe State Commission for Cooperation of BiH with UNESCO, chaired by the Minister of Civil Affairs Adil Osmanovic, adopted the nomination of rainforests Perucica for admission to the Tentative List of UNESCO.

Nomination of rainforests Perucica for admission to the Tentative List will be submitted to the Center for World Heritage of UNESCO.

In the material for the nomination that was submitted by the competent Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and the Environment of the RS and prepared in the PI National Park “Sutjeska”, was stated that nature reserve Perucica is located in the heart of the National Park “Sutjeska”, which is the best preserved and largest rainforest in Europe, where any intervention of man is strictly prohibited.

In the rainforest Perucica is registered more than 170 species of trees and shrubs, as well as over 1000 species of herbaceous plants, many of which are endemic species, which is why the rainforest Perucica is considered as the location of special scientific interest.

The State Commission for Cooperation of BiH with UNESCO considered and approved the Report on the state of preservation of World Heritage good of the area of Old Town around the Old Bridge in Mostar and the Report on the state of preservation of World Heritage good Mehmed Pasa Sokolovic Bridge in Visegrad. Reports will be submitted to the World Heritage Center of UNESCO.

The candidacy of the Association Pontanima for obtaining the status of UNESCO’s Artists for Peace was supported. Members of the Commission for Cooperation of BiH with UNESCO were informed about the call for submission of applications for the UNESCO network of creative cities.
