FBiH Ministry of Transport and Communications obtained a building permit for the project of reconstruction of the road Tuzla-Sarajevo over the mountain pass Karaula.

According to plan, all works should be finished by September 2014, and they will be done in phases.

‘We’re starting with the forest cutting on some subsections of the new road. Immediately after that we’ll start the digging’, said the FBiH Minister of Transport and Communications Enver Bijedić.

Money for the first phase of the project, worth 6 million BAM, has been secured, and the competent Ministry is working on finding the money for financing other phases of the 60 million BAM project.

‘We’ve already applied to the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and we’ve got a positive response when it comes to credit for the project of road Tuzla-Sarajevo’, said Bijedić.

Road reconstruction involves the construction of four viaducts each 1 km long, and 1 km long tunnel.

The tunnel will be dug under Karaula, which will significantly reduce the altitude of the Tuzla-Sarajevo road.

Bijedić said that the altitude of the tunnel will be 220 metres.

‘The viaducts will connect certain road section, which will significantly shorten the time of travelling between these two cities’, said Bijedić.

The overall length of this road section should be around 5 kilometres.
