A state of natural disaster has been declared in Široki Brijeg and its surroundings. A strong storm accompanied by hail caused material damage mainly to agricultural goods, and damage was also recorded to several residential buildings and cars. Mayor Miro Kraljević promised help.

Also, the municipality of Grude was affected by this natural disaster, but no decision has yet been made to declare a state of natural disaster.

In just a few minutes, a storm accompanied by hail hit the area of Široki Brijeg yesterday afternoon.

The day after, the damages are added up. A resident of  settlement Trn says that even the oldest do not remember such a storm and that the scenes were truly terrifying.

“Unfortunately, numerous villages in the Široki Brijeg municipality were destroyed. The scenes that followed just after that storm were truly chaotic. Of course, people immediately came out, cleaned, tidied up as much as possible”, says Dijana Pinjuh, a resident of Široki Brijeg.

The City Administration of Široki Brijeg points out what the procedure is when a state of natural disaster is declared. The mayor says that he will do everything to compensate the citizens in some way for the damage caused.

“When an elementary accident is declared, then we have the possibility and the right to ask for help from higher levels, it cannot be compensated for by people, it cannot be compensated in any way. We can mitigate their damage and their efforts a little,” said Miro Kraljević, mayor of Široki Brijeg.

The Civil Protection Headquarters of the West Herzegovina Canton reported on the state of the natural disaster in the area of Široki Brijeg. They also provided information on further actions related to damages that occurred on private properties, residential buildings and personal cars.

“Our commissions for damage assessment are already on the ground and of course citizens are expected to report the damage,” explained Drago Martinović, Chief of Staff for Civil Protection of the ZHK.

Damages can be reported eight days after the declaration of a state of natural disaster, so that citizens can at least in some way manage to repair the damage caused by this natural disaster, BHRT writes.
