Retired Pilot comments on the Crash of the AFBiH Helicopter: “There is a Rule that must be Followed”

Two days ago, during a rehearsal for a planned exercise with the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Konjic at Jablanica Lake, a helicopter of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH) crashed with four crew members on board, all of whom fortunately survived. Retired helicopter pilot Janko Kecman said yesterday that the relevant authorities must determine whether the pre-flight preparations for the helicopter were conducted properly.

“For helicopter pilots, the greatest danger is low-voltage wires and power lines. There is a rule that must be followed, which is to fly from pole to pole. It is fortunate that no one was injured,” Kecman said.

He emphasized that the use of helicopters in extreme weather conditions is extremely difficult and dangerous.

“For each flight, the helicopter receives a certificate confirming that it is ready and safe to execute its tasks, as do the pilot crews. The question arises as to what distracted the pilot’s attention and whether someone had previously inspected the area, as well as whether they were advised on the route to take,” Kecman added.

The AFBiH helicopter crashed two days ago into Jablanica Lake.

Yesterday, Officers of the Federal Police Administration began activities to retrieve the helicopter.

At the time of the accident two days ago, there were four crew members on board, one of whom sustained minor injuries.

The four-member crew consisted of a pilot, co-pilot, flight technician, and a search and rescue service specialist, N1 writes.
