Robert De Niro: Goodbye Sarajevo and Thanks for Everything!

De NiroRobert De Niro, after lunch in Sarajevo restaurant, yesterday headed back to the airport.

After lunch at the Sarajevo restaurant “The Four Rooms of Mrs. Safija,” while greeting with. Mirsad Purivatra, director of the Sarajevo Film Festival, famous De Niro said: “Goodbye Sarajevo and thanks for everything.”

Lunch was attended by the Prime Minister of Canton Sarajevo Elmedin Konakovic with his wife Dalija, the Ambassador of US to BiH Maureen Cormack, then Emir Hadzihafizbegovic, Pjer Zalica, Nikola Djuricko and others.

Previously, De Niro visited Bascarsija, the Bey’s Mosque, and he also caused  euphoria in the old part of the city. He also bought Bosnian souvenirs on Bascarsija.

During his visit, De Niro visited the Old Jewish Cemetery, a national monument that witnesses the presence of Jews in Sarajevo. After that, he visited the site Zlatiste above Sarajevo, a place from which the artillery of the Army of the RS targeted the city during the siege. Last De Niro’s location was Sarajevo Tunnel in Butmir. The famous actor stayed there a little longer, because he was particularly impressed with the Tunnel. He was accompanied by Mirsad Purivatra, the first man of the SFF, for the entire time.

The 22nd edition of the biggest film festival in the region, the Sarajevo Film Festival, started with the screening of the cult film “Taxi Driver” by American director Martin Scorsese, in the National Theater and the Open Air Cinema in Sarajevo. Before the screening of the film, Robert De Niro received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The day after the opening of the festival with the screening of the cult film Taxi Driver, the famous actor Robert De Niro spoke about his career in the interview, which took place at the National Theater in front of the festival audience, participants of the program Talents Sarajevo and media representatives.
