commerceConstruction companies from the former Yugoslavia can improve productivity and be competitive by joining in consortia and clusters to implement large infrastructure projects in the region, as well as in other markets. Consolidation of capacity in the construction sector is a response to the crisis, but the builders need broad support of state institutions in the form of providing guarantees for joint participation in large projects, it was pointed out in the debate “Enhancing regional economic cooperation in the field of construction”, which was held in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (CoC Serbia), according to the website of the Chamber.

Representatives of the largest construction companies, discussed at the meeting in Belgrade the possibility of recovery of the construction sector, which fell into a crisis in all countries of the region, with a view to a possible return to the Arab, African, Russian, South American and other markets, where once Yugoslav operations were very appreciated.

President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik pointed out that in this sector there is a multitude of problems.

“It is imperative to create basic assumptions in each of these countries through legislation that will allow one better and more reliable business environment, and which will bring to the fore in our market the domestic companies that will ensure that we have quality staff that is essential for the economy and protection against the underground economy, but also to have a higher degree of participation in the implementation of public sector projects,” he stressed.

The round table was organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, in cooperation with the Chambers of Commerce of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Croatia. The leading construction companies from BiH – Širbegović,  Hering and Euroasfalt, Republic of Srpska – Integral and Krajina, Macedonia – Granit, Beton, Žikol and Inkom inženjering and Serbia – Mostogradnja, Energoprojekt, Jedinstvo, Putevi Užice, Planum, Deneza, Hidrotehnika – hidrogradnja, Konstruktor from Split, Hidra from Slovenije, and others were invited to the meeting at the Chamber.
