RT television will start broadcasting programs in the territory of Republika Srpska, (RS), but also in the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), it was announced from this company.
The information about the launch of the channel was confirmed by the editor-in-chief of RT, Margarita Simonyan, during a guest appearance on Russia 1 television.
According to her, the program of this television in the territory of BiH will begin broadcasting during the next year, with a note that the broadcast will be on the territory of the entire BiH, not only the RS.
Somnyan said this after Darinka Petrovic, a journalist from Alternative Television from Banja Luka, asked Russian President Vladimir Putin about the political situation in BiH two days ago, adding to the question that there is currently no Russian media in RS.
“We really know the situation in RS, in BiH, and our assessments of this situation completely coincide with the assessments of your political leadership,” Putin said during the regular annual press conference.
“As for the Russian media, it’s a shame that they don’t exist in these areas,” he added and asked if Russia Today is broadcast in the RS.
”It’s not broadcasting, is it? You should think about it. We have to think about it, I will ask my colleagues, Oleg Borisovich [Dobrodejev] to see what can be done about this issue,” Putin said on Thursday in a direct response, which was also publishedyesterday by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in BiH on its Facebook page profile.
On Friday, Margarita Simonyan said that the Russian side will make every effort to ensure that journalist Darinka Petrovic “has everything she needs in her home so that she can watch Russian television”.
“Next year, we will start broadcasting a program in the Serbian language, which has never existed until now. We will find you, dear, and make sure that everything is set up on your TV, that all the necessary antennas are connected,” said Simonyan.
She added that RT’s portal in the Serbian language is already active in the Balkans. Her statement about opening a new channel was also confirmed by RT’s portal. They did not return phone calls Friday morning for comment on the new channel announcement.
RT is a global television station established in 2005 by the Government of the Russian Federation, whose content is broadcast on multilingual channels around the world.
After Russia attacked Ukraine, broadcasting of this channel was banned in the countries of the European Union (EU), as well as the United States (U.S.), Great Britain, and several other countries.
In BiH, the channel is still broadcast on some cable operators, Detektor reports.
