Sarajevo: New Snow, new Surprise

Crowded trams, long lines of cars, uncleaned roads, clogged drains – this was the scene in Sarajevo yesterday.

Fridays in the capital are notorious for heavy traffic during the afternoon, and the falling snow only made the situation worse.

Sarajevo, the Olympic city, has struggled for years to handle anything more than a light snowfall.

Yesterday, when the forecasted snow arrived, everything came to a standstill.

Clogged drains were blocked by uncleaned leaves. Main roads remained unplowed, leading to an afternoon traffic collapse. Pedestrians faced great difficulty navigating the streets. Public transport is operational, with trams currently appearing to be the best option. Dedicated workers are trying to improve the situation, but it seems like the effort should have started earlier.

And so it goes, year after year – whenever the snow falls, it catches everyone by surprise.
