julianSarajevo will today be one of ten cities in the world where the global event “First they came for Assange…” will be held at the same time, dedicated to the marking of the fourth anniversary of detention of Julian Assange in political asylum of the Embassy of Ecuador in London, and dedicated to the celebration of the freedom of expression.

Throughout the world, some of the greatest world thinkers will meet, support Assange and speak about the world in which we live today.

People who joined this global event are Patti Smith, Brian Eno, PJ Harvey, Laibach, Noam Chomsky, Yanis Varoufakis, Ai Weiwei, Vivienne Westwood, Michael Moore, Ken Loach, Slavoj Žižek, Edgar Morin, Bernard Stiegler, Franco “Bifo” Berardi, Baltasar Garzon, Amy Goodman, Ignacio Ramonet, Chris Hedges, Evgeny Morozov… These and many other names will gather to support the whistleblowers and condemn the political persecution of WikiLeaks.

Via live stream, the audience in the cinema Meeting Point in Sarajevo will follow the addressing speech of Julian Assange, Yanis Varoufakis, Srećko Horvat, and via video they will watch and listen Slavoj Žižek, Brian Enoa, and Vivienne Westwood. The event in Sarajevo will be the broadcasting of the event in Brussels, in which the former Greek minister of finance Yanis Varoufakis and the Croatian philosopher Srećko Horvat participate. Julian Assange will address the event points live from the Embassy of Ecuador in London.

Entrance to the event in Sarajevo is free of charge, and a discussion will follow the event.

Today, on June 19, Julian Assange is in custody without an indictment for 2022 days already. Four months ago, the United Nations adjudicated that Great Britain and Sweden have been unlawfully keeping him in detention since his arrest on December 7, 2010. The UN demanded his immediate release, with a compensation. Both countries refused to respect the verdict.

The events will be broadcasted at www.freeassangenow.org.
