Secondary School for the environment and wood design from Sarajevo, in cooperation with partners from the CPE “Sarajevo Forests” Ltd, organized reforestation of sites on the slopes of Igman near cemetery Kovaci, together with the 9th grade students from the Fifth elementary school from Sokolovici.
The authors of the project called: “Improving the welfare functions of forests and the environment through the segment of reforestation”, that was approved by the Board of Forestry and the Ministry of Economy of Canton Sarajevo, are Maida Haskic and Naser Gegic from the Secondary School for the environment and wood design.
“This is the best gift to the city of Sarajevo from the students of primary and high schools who want to give their contribution to environment and health of all citizens through reforestation and to guide their peers in noble activities like this one,” said the teacher, Aida Muratovic.
“Sarajevo forests will always be with those who want to contribute to forest resources of the Sarajevo Canton through its activities, because it is the wealth of all of us, for the present and for the future generations,” said Alen Haskovic, the forestry engineer.
The project aims to develop environmental awareness of students on environmental protection, training students to help return degraded areas to its original state through the reforestation and thus contribute to the stability of forest ecosystems.
Beginning of the reforestation project on the occasion of the Day of the city of Sarajevo is a gift that young people are giving with love. The students tend to achieve their full potential in ecological reforestation and thus to give their contribution to the nature through activities related to recovery and provide natural resources for future generations.
