[wzslider autoplay=”true”]In 2015, the 20th anniversary of signing Dayton Peace Agreement was marked. In the year ahead, the two decades since the establishment of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be marked.

1996 was the first New Year citizens of B&H have celebrated after signing of Dayton Peace Agreement in November 1995.

Country was still demolished and peace was maintained by SFOR whose troops were composed of 50 000 soldiers.

However, in 1996 the country was in ruins, movement was restricted, and only in the middle of the year withdrawal of all parties to borders agreed upon in Dayton was fully completed.

After the longest siege in modern history, Sarajevo was reintegrated in spring of 1996 and reconstruction of city started the same year.

Amateur photographs taken during 1996 show parts of the city such as Dobrinja, Aerodromsko naselje, Bascarsija, Kovaci, Vraca and others.

Photos testify and bring back memory of the destroyed city that literally rose from ashes.
