hair donation cancerIn the organization of the Association “Heart for children with cancer in FBiH” today in the Sarajevo City Center there is a humanitarian event called “My hair – your hair.”

All people whose hair is long at least 30 centimeters and is not chemically treated can donate a piece of which human hair wigs will be made for children with cancer. Others can shorten their hair in solidarity with children suffering from malignant diseases.

“We are here to raise awareness that these children exist, that these diseases exist and that one should pay attention to it. My daughter was 13 years old when she got sick and lost her hair and we hardly found a wig which was a real financial blow because natural wigs are very costly. Parents often come from socially disadvantaged backgrounds and cannot afford it for their children. A child needs a wig until he/she grows hair and this is particularly sensitive for girls.” said Lejla Kamerić, president of the Association” Heart for children with cancer in FBiH “.

Those who were not able to donate hair today can do it later as well.

Malignant diseases affect about 55 boys and girls in BiH, and the percentage of cure is around 70 percent. Hair loss is one of the mildest of the illness, but for children it is very difficult to accept, especially in the teenage years.
