Yes, the appearance of Jedha, sacred planet for the Jedi, was created on the model of color, look, and tone of Sarajevo and Bascarsija, and for this, we can thank a great friend of this city, Michele Benigna.

Michele Benigna is a man who has worked on the visual effects not only for Rogue One but also for blockbusters such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ant-Man, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Interstellar, Thor: The Dark World, Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises, Harry Potter etc.

For Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, he worked on creating Jedha at the company ILM London.

We heard that Sarajevo Bascarsija appears in the film Rogue One. Can you tell us where and why Sarajevo?

“I was lucky that I worked and lived in Sarajevo in 2008, and during that time I made lots of photos,” said Benigna.

“Sarajevo is a mix of cultures and when I was working on a scene from Jedha, somehow it seemed to me that the two cities have similar vibration. Photos that I used were made from a high ground that looks towards Bascarsija and the old part of Sarajevo,” concluded Michele Benigna.
