Vice President of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce for Agriculture and Tourism Dragan Kovačević stated today in Sarajevo that Croatia’s entry into ‘Schengen’ has not changed anything in terms of the border regime with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with the Croatian Chamber of Commerce organized the forum “Effects of the entry of the Republic of Croatia into Schengen from the point of view of economic cooperation between HR/EU and BiH”. Kovačević stated that the Schengen procedures had been applied for some time and that there are no new procedures.
“It is noticeable that in certain situations our systems are incompatible and BiH should use its possibilities and send initiatives toward the European Commission,” said Kovačević.
He added that Bosnia and Herzegovina should work on technical issues, such as introducing electronic signature, which would greatly help the flow of goods.
Vice President of the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina Vjekoslav Vuković pointed out that they received assurances from their colleagues from Croatia that customs procedures will not change. In contrast, certain changes will apply to the crossing of passengers from third countries across the border.
He explained that these changes will be introduced at the end of 2023 and will involve providing biometric data of all passengers, which should take 30 to 60 seconds per person.
Vuković underlined that BiH and Croatia have a trade exchange worth eight billion BAM and that it is continuously growing, Fena reports.
