“The future of the Western Balkans is in the European Union. Bosnia and Herzegovina belongs to that future,” said High Representative Christian Schmidt at today’s meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Sarajevo, which was attended by the highest political officials from all over Europe and the countries of the Western Balkans.
Schmidt said that the European path remains the most effective framework for strengthening stability, prosperity, democratic governance and regional cooperation.
“The reforms that need to be implemented are well known. The path that needs to be taken is also known. It is time to move from discussions to concrete activities and take advantage of the opportunities that the process of European integration provides to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said the high representative.
Schmidt emphasized that it is unfortunate that political institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina have not found a way to respond to the desire of all citizens to speed up the process of European integration.
“This is dangerous and it is necessary to take appropriate steps without delay before the upcoming elections,” concluded High Representative Christian Schmidt.
