Service for Foreigners’ Affairs of BiH Issues Official Disclaimer

The Service for Foreigners’ Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina informs the public that some media outlets have incorrectly reported the statement of Director Žarko Laketa regarding Israeli tourists whose passports disappeared in Sarajevo.

Director Laketa did not state that the passports were “accidentally thrown away” or that they “ended up in a landfill”. Determining the circumstances of the disappearance of the passports is not within the competence of the Service, but of the Sarajevo Police Department, which is clearly emphasized in his statement.

The Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, within its competence, immediately provided support to the Israeli tourists in the process of issuing travel documents, and remains available until the problem is resolved. In parallel, communication is ongoing with the Embassy of Israel in Belgrade, which will enable their return home as soon as possible.

The tourists are provided with accommodation and food in the hotel where they are staying, until their departure for Israel.

The Service for Foreigners’ Affairs always promptly and responsibly performs its work within its competence, and will also take all necessary steps in this case to resolve the situation in the best possible way.
