12834504_1737825029787507_243158114_nSolar panels were installed on one of the newly constructed buildings in the Sarajevo settlement “Miljacka”, through which all the apartments on the top floor have free hot water.

This is the first residential building in Sarajevo that is using the benefits of solar power in this way as an alternative energy source.

“This is a pioneering endeavor. Energy efficiency and energy independence are imperatives of the 21st century. We made the first step with the intention to give an example to the others in order to use renewable energy sources wherever it is possible, and to preserve the environment and breathe clean air. There is a long way to environmentally clean air in Sarajevo, and the sooner we start working on it, the sooner we will reach our goal,” said director of MS&WOOD Hrusto Tupekovic.

By introducing a system of solar heating of hot water in the building, all the tenants on the 13th floor are allowed to have their own solar collector that heats the water. There is hot water tank in the bathrooms of these apartments, so that these residents have free hot water 24 hours per day.

Buildings in the settlement “Miljacka” are designed according to global standards of energy saving in housing through functionality, orientation-position of buildings on the land, and the use of high-quality built-in materials and equipment.

Facade systems in the settlement “Miljacka” have thermal insulation with thickness of 15 cm, which save the energy, and thereby reduce the cost of winter heating and summer cooling. Housing units are isolated from each other and outside corridors and stairways. Individual water meters and calorimeters are built in order to fully control the cost of housing.
