Several Hundred Packages of Cigarettes seized, One Person arrested

The duty prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, who coordinated the seizure carried out by authorised officers of the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA), ordered the deprivation of freedom for a suspected Montenegrin citizen, who operated a vehicle, truck, in which, by use of special equipment, a large quantity of several hundred packages of cigarettes was found and which also transported other types of goods.

According to preliminary information, the seized quantity of cigarettes was intended for smuggling further to EU countries.

One of the largest quantities of smuggled cigarettes, the value of which is estimated at several hundred thousand BAM was discovered and seized from a suspected Montenegrin citizen.

The duty prosecutor requested the apprehension of the suspect, for whom, after questioning, he would move the ordering of the custody measure.

The quantity of smuggled cigarettes to Bosnia and Herzegovina seized in this action is one of the largest.

The activities were carried out by authorized ITA BiH officers and police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency – SIPA on the order of the duty prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.

The investigation in the case is being continued intensively.
