This year’s winner of the Katrin Cartlidge Foundation scholarship is the Chinese artist and film director Ran Huang, whose short film “The Administration of Glory” competed for the grand prix of the Cannes Film Festival 2014.
Ran’s work has attracted the attention of the award-winning actor and director Danny Huston, who is the curator of the Katrin Cartlidge Foundation for 2015.
“After seeing Ran’s films, it was clear to me that I am looking at the work of a visionary. He makes me observe the world through different eyes, and I find it very exciting. The communication through art is a fundamental value of the Sarajevo Film Festival, and in his work Ran questions the state of mankind”, said Danny Huston.
Ran Huang is thrilled by the possibilities that the scholarship offers to him.
“When you are an artist, you mostly work on your own, but what I like about the film is the openness to the ideas of others. I am looking forward to having this opportunity to broaden my horizons, to explore a new language, new community, and a new way to connect with the people”, Huang pointed out.
In the spirit of the inspiring personality of the late actress Katrin Cartlidge, the foundation that bears her name has been established with the aim of finding and supporting new authors and new perspectives on the film. The foundation scholarship is always awarded at the Sarajevo Film Festival, in honor of the deep affection that Katrin had for this region and for the fundamental principles of the Festival.
