Five skeletons were found during the archaeological research in the locality of Mile near Visoko as part of a pilot study that was conducted by the Institute of Archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo.

Several thousand findings were discovered in less than half a month in this area and its surroundings, and the leader of the project and the Institute, Adnan Kaljanac, believes that they represent a testimony of life in the Middle Ages, but there is also a possibility for even earlier period.

“We found five complete, well-preserved skeletons, as well as parts of the sixth skeleton. We sent them to Poland for DNA analysis and we will continue to work with much more precision after they deliver it to us,” said Kaljanac.

He announced that this locality could be turned into a national monument.

Edin Bujak from the Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy of Sarajevo noted that they have found hearthstones, jewellery, skeletons, glass and other items that are testifying about life, work, customs and traditions…

“There is a thousand-year history in Mile,” said Bujak, and added that the locality of Mile is an important historical site.

He expressed his hope for this site to be discovered and explored completely.

It was also noted that there are large expectations for this project. Mile are the crown place and grave place of Bosnian kings during the period of medieval Bosnia. The first Bosnian king Tvrtko I Kotromanic was crowned there.
