The Slovenian contingent conducted its official Change of Command ceremony at Camp Butmir on 10 April 2026, marking an important moment of continuity within EUFOR’s multinational framework.

The Ceremony was attended by the Commander of EUFOR, Major General Maurizio Fronda, Slovenian Armed Forces Deputy Force Commander, Brigadier General Igor Šepec, members of the EUFOR staff, and other distinguished guests.

During the Ceremony, command of the Slovenian contingent was formally transferred from Lieutenant Colonel Jure Lampe to Lieutenant Colonel Matjaž Kavčič. This transition reflects the continued professionalism and commitment of the Slovenian Armed Forces in supporting Operation ALTHEA.

Major General Fronda expressed his sincere appreciation to Lieutenant Colonel Lampe for his dedicated and exemplary service, highlighting his leadership and contribution to the mission. At the same time, he warmly welcomed Lieutenant Colonel Kavčič, expressing full confidence in his leadership as he assumes command.

On the occasion of the ceremony, Major General Fronda also held an official meeting with Brigadier General Šepec, emphasizing the importance of strong and enduring partnerships between EUFOR and the Republic of Slovenia in maintaining a safe and secure environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As a recognition of his efforts in strengthening international military cooperation, Maurizio Fronda was awarded with the Medal for International Cooperation. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude for this medal. It is a great honour to receive such recognition,” stated Major General Fronda.

The ceremony not only marked a change in leadership but also reaffirmed the shared commitment to stability, cooperation, and peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
