Dragan Spasojević has pleaded not guilty to the indictment charging him with crimes against humanity in the Zvornik area in 1992.
“I am not guilty,” said Spasojević, whose trial is scheduled to begin in the coming period.
The indictment against Spasojević was confirmed in February 2024, and he is charged with forcible transfer, inhuman treatment and imprisonment of civilians in the Zvornik area.
He was indicted with Vinko Radović, Dragomir Vasić and Petko Panić, but the proceedings against him were separated because he was not available, while the others are on trial.
Spasojević lives in Novi Sad and has citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
At the hearing held in July, it was said that Spasojević appeared at the Prosecutor’s Office with his defense attorney and that he was served with the indictment. The Prosecutor’s Office’s proposal from July to order Spasojević to be detained or have a travel ban was rejected.
The indictment includes the forcible transfer of around 4,000 Bosniak civilians from the villages of Đulići, Klisa and other villages, inhumane treatment, as well as the unlawful detention of around 600 people, BIRN reports.
