“The ‘Art of Living’ is a set of techniques that can help every man release stress, perceive his heart and soul, and realize that his heart is open to love”, said Sri Sri Ravi Shankar – humanitarian, peacemaker, and spiritual leader from India – in Sarajevo last night.
Shankar is in Bosnia and Herzegovina taking part in a world tour in which he promotes peace talks regarding “Peace for peace and human values“. Last night’s lecture was attended by citizens of Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bulgaria, and other south-eastern European countries.
Shankar’s vision of a society without stress and violence united millions of people around the world through projects of serving communities and programs under the Art of Living Foundation. The motto of the spiritual teacher and peacemaker is: “the whole world is one family“.
The “Art of Living” involves yoga and breathing techniques that reduce stress, strengthening the immune system and improving your mood. These techniques are currently being taught in more than 150 countries around the world.
Last night, Shankar stated that love experienced between people can be evident in seconds. A simple gaze or someone’s presence is enough for love to be felt. Others might require hours of intimate conversation before they can experience any form of adoration. Regardless, all humans have the potential to promote the well-being of the Earth by spreading more love.
Shankar believes that the success of a state should not be measured by GDP (gross domestic product), but instead by GDH (gross domestic happiness) – a concept that tries to quantify happiness by measuring suitable environmental policies, successful governance, and other national statistics not directly linked to economic achievement. To achieve happiness means to release stress, anger, and fear, which is why his dream is to one day see the world devoid of all negative emotions.
