turkey state of emergencyAfter the state of emergency was put into force in Turkey on Wednesday, the Consul-General of BiH in Istanbul, Began Muhic, says that there are no significant changes for BiH citizens who are traveling to Turkey.

Regarding the decision on proclaiming a state of emergency in the next three months, Muhic recalled that it is in accordance with the law.

“The Constitution of the Republic of Turkey defines the state of emergency through a special law. It gives more power to the government, the president and governors. Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that civil rights will not be undermined in terms of establishing a curfew, which can take place in extraordinary situations,” explained Muhic.

Muhic said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH and the Presidency of BiH are forwarding a guidance on how and in what way the Consulate General of BiH should act.

“Regarding Consulate General of BiH in Istanbul, everything is going in its usual pace, citizens are addressing the Consulate for the requirements of established consular matters, such as the replacement of passports and issuing of certifications and visas. When it comes to the security situation, life is normalized and it is impossible to notice that coup attempt happened recently,” said Began Muhic.

Consul added that an increased number of calls or inquiries of our citizens in Turkey and BiH was not registered since Thursday morning. Queries are mainly related to the security situation and recommendations related to tourist visits.

“Basically, everyone need to follow the instructions regarding gatherings in certain places. It is difficult to give guarantees because unexpected things are happening in the world, in France or USA,” said Muhic.
