State Parliamentarians visit Foca: BiH will remain multiethnic

Chairman Denis Zvizdic and members of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Sasa Magazinovic and Predrag Kojovic, and delegate in the House of Peoples Denis Becirovic during the visit to Foca discussed numerous current issues that plague returnees.

Topics of conversation were the latest developments related to the celebration of the unconstitutional day of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity, as well as the employment of Bosniaks in the entity institutions.

Visits by parliamentarians were also recorded yesterday in other areas where there has been recent harassment and security threats to returnees. In Foca, they met with representatives of the Bosniak community in the Aladza mosque complex.

Izet Spahic, the only Bosniak councilor in Foca, said that returnees in Foca were upset about a number of things that happened, from the shooting at the Aladza mosque, the drawing of murals for the convicted war criminals to the last celebration of RS’s unconstitutional day in the municipality.

The construction of hydropower plants on the rivers Drina and Bistrica is also controversial, because there is a justified suspicion that there are mass graves at these locations. Demands to suspend the works until the terrain is examined were also pointed out, and the parliamentarians promised to launch an initiative towards the prosecutor’s office and other competent institutions.

The data on the employment of Bosniaks in local government institutions, public institutions, and companies, where a total of about ten Bosniaks work, are also devastating.

“There are examples where the realization of such projects takes several years after the funds are approved, as is the case in the local community Jelec where three hydroelectric power plants have been built, and a kilometer within these power plants returnees have been living without electricity for more than 10 years,” Spahic emphasized.

During the meeting, there was talk of a request for the construction of a central memorial to the Bosniaks killed in Foca, and of launching an initiative to direct at least one percent of the Canton Sarajevo (CS) budget to eastern Bosnia.
