komsicYesterday, on the special ceremony which was held in Sarajevo, the mayor of Sarajevo, Ivo Komšić, handed a stone fragment from the Sarajevo City Hall to the Ambassador of the United States to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maureen Cormack, thus symbolizing unbreakable and lasting relationship of the people and governments of these two countries.

As during this solemn act was said, “a piece of Sarajevo” will be built into a retaining wall in the square of American brother town of Dayton (Ohio), which will be built in honor of the memory of Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, a prominent American diplomat and peace mediator, who had a very important role in the drafting and signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement in late 1995, which ended the war in BiH.

Ambassador Cormack expressed her gratitude on the occasion of this extraordinary event, with the belief that all those who are visiting Holbrooke market will be able to think about the relationship between the Dayton and BiH, and that the mentioned piece of BH cultural heritage will testify the lasting bonds between the US and Bosnia.

In this regard, the US ambassador quoted the Dayton City’s Commissioner, which underlined the responsibility of the city towards citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and commitment for sustainable solutions that support the building of democracy, lasting peace and prosperity in BiH.
