Students and citizens have been blocking certain roads in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš since this morning.

A group of blockade participants gathered at Trg Republike, from where they headed to the Terazije Tunnel and blocked the entrance to the tunnel with containers, but dispersed when police officers appeared.

They then blocked the intersection of Despota Stefan Boulevard and Braće Jugović Boulevard.

Traffic was blocked in front of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, at the intersection of Jurija Gagarina and Gandijeva, at Vidikovac and at Ada Mol, according to media reports.

In Novi Sad, three major intersections have been blocked since 6:00 a.m. – at GSP, “Merkator” and the intersection of Temerinska and Partizanska Streets.

It has been announced that these blockades will last until 9:00 a.m.

In Niš, a protest is being held in front of the Basic Court building, and it has been announced that it will last all day.

Students announced on social media a “total blockade” of Belgrade and Novi Sad starting this morning, citing police brutality as the reason, as they claim.

The roadblocks in Belgrade and other cities began on June 29 due to the arrest of several students suspected of “planning a violent change in the constitutional order”.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić called on citizens to remain calm last night and appealed not to destroy Serbia, because those who want it, as he points out, cannot defeat it.

Vučić stated that the state wants to allow all freedom of assembly, but that it cannot and must not allow such violence.

The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned anyone who intends to organize, as they said, illegal blockades that the police will take all necessary measures to protect public order and peace.
