Students from Tuscany oslobodjenje.baStudents from Tuscany, who are staying for a one-day visit to Sarajevo, today paid their respects to the victims of the Markale massacre.

They were addressed by the Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić, who spoke about the massacre which took place on February 5th 1994, when 68 citizens of Sarajevo were killed, and 144 were wounded.

“It is important that young people know what happened in Sarajevo 20 years ago, because only in this way we can build a better future and send different messages, other than tragic ones, from our city”, explained Komšić.

Included as part of their journey, the students also visited the City Hall and met with the Archbishop of Vrhbosna Cardinal Vinko Puljić, the Reis-ul-Ulema of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein ef. Kavazović, and the President of the Jewish Community in B&H Jakob Finci.
