The director of the Memorial Center of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, Emir Suljagić, sent a sharp reaction today after it was announced from the Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina that during their visit to Bratunac, their delegation paid tribute to “innocently killed civilians”, and it was actually a military cemetery where members of the Army of Republika Srpska were buried.
“EU Chargé d’Affaires in BiH Adebayo Babajide and diplomats from the EU member states in BiH traveled today to Bratunac and met with Mayor Lazar Prodanović to familiarize themselves with the situation in the municipality, including trust-building activities between communities. They also paid tribute to the innocent to the civilians killed in that area from 1992 to 1995. Empathy and respect for all innocent civilian victims, as well as the acceptance of historical and judicially established facts are key to creating an environment conducive to reconciliation,” the EU Delegation stated in a post on the social network X.
Shortly after that, Suljagić posted on his profile, stating that he was absolutely shocked.
“I am shocked, completely shocked when I see an official of the EU Delegation honoring members of the Bosnian Serb army at the ‘military cemetery’ – there is the real flag of the Bosnian Serb veterans’ organization right next to the big cross – under the guise of ‘innocent civilians’. Individuals are buried here who played a leading role in the crimes against humanity in the spring and summer of 1992. What a shame. You will pay hell for this, you have my word,” said Suljagić, adding: “The one who was buried in this cemetery executed members of my family in May 1992. A certain Adebayo declared today on behalf of the EU in Bosnia and Herzegovina that he was, in fact, an innocent civilian and not a bloodthirsty genocidal maniac who was later killed in a legitimate military engagement,” Suljagić said.
