Students and professors of the Teachers Training Institute of the University in Zurich, 26 of them, visited Gorazde where they spent one week together with the teachers and students of the primary school “Husein ef. Djozo”, and they were accommodated in the families of Gorazde.
In Gorazde, the students had an opportunity to see how do Bosnian families live and function in order to better understand the migrants, future pupils of these students who live in Switzerland and in a large number come from the countries of the Western Balkans.
“Switzerland is a country in which the Swiss and the immigrants live together. Because they live and work together every day, they must be interested in each other and must know more about each other. Above all, the Swiss teachers must be well informed. Just because of that, for many years the Teacher Training Institute at the Faculty of Education of the University in Zurich has been organizing students’ visits to countries which are of great importance for the migrants in Switzerland. This is the 12th consecutive year in which the Swiss students visit B&H, primary school “Husein ef. Djozo”, and the city of Gorazde where, besides being accommodated in the local families and visiting the school every day, they also meet with the representatives of the municipal and cantonal authorities, visit kindergartens, non-governmental organizations and businessmen. They are 23 years old on average and they are just starting their professional career”, said Almin Adzovic, the project coordinator.
Primary school “Husein ef. Djozo” has a continuous cooperation with the University in Zurich (Zurich Univesity of Teacher Education/Pedagogische Hochshule Zurich, Switzerland) which started in 2002 and which is being implemented through the visit of students with the aim of getting to know the educational system, culture, and tradition of B&H. the students learn about B&H, community, history, and school system. They are accommodated in the Bosnian families.
“The primary objective of this trip is that students learn more about the country, community, history and the school system, but the most important is that they learn all of this through traveling and personal experience”, explained the Professor Rolf Gollob, the project leader.
Thereby, the students had an opportunity to visit the kindergarten Sunce, the Ministry of Education, the company Bekto Precisa, as well as the Memorial Rorovi and the Association “Seka”, while they even played a volleyball match with the teachers of the primary school “Husein ef. Djozo”.
Every year upon return to Switzerland, the students organize a charity action where they gather money for a school or kindergarten in Gorazde depending on their needs, and each their visit to Gorazde is anticipated with joy.
