Tauber: Let’s turn on the Light and consecrate the Temple

Hanukkah, the Jewish holiday of lights, has begun yesterday at sunset and will last until December 26.

Eli Tauber, adviser for culture and religion of the Jewish community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said in a statement for FENA that Hanukkah, a historical holiday, still reminds us of something that happened almost two thousand two hundred years ago.

According to Tauber, this is a holiday that, when told, sounds like a legend, which in part it is, that reminds generations that it always makes sense to fight for freedom and that it is worth it.

He added that Jews always gather in their community and celebrate holidays such as Hanukkah.

“This year we all gather to light the first candle and sing a special song in a circle of friends. The children prepared a small event for adults who gathered to celebrate this magnificent holiday, which unites generations and reminds them of one great struggle, one great battle that we won and preserved the faith of one God. This is how we preserve tradition, pass it on to young people and remind ourselves of that incredible moment when we stood up and showed that we know what we believe in and that we will continue to preserve it and believe in it,” said Tauber.

“And while the first candle burns on the large candlestick along the shore of the Miljacka River to remind us of this, we serve a sweet dish made in deep fat, because Hanukkah is also a holiday of oil. Let’s turn on the light and consecrate the Temple and return to the faith of Abraham and our other forefathers,” Eli Tauber, advisor for culture and religion of the Jewish community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, told FENA, on the occasion of the beginning of Hanukkah, the Jewish holiday of light.
