Tehran characterized the Sanctions as legally unfounded and unjustified

Iran has called the reimposition of UN sanctions over its nuclear program baseless and unjustified.

The measures, which ban business related to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile activities, came into effect overnight after Western powers triggered the so-called rollback mechanism under the 2015 nuclear deal.

“The reactivation of the annulled resolutions is legally baseless and unjustified, and all countries must refrain from recognizing this illegal situation,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.

The statement said Iran would firmly defend its national rights and interests, and any action aimed at undermining the rights and interests of its people would face a firm and appropriate response.

The reimposition of sanctions ends months of tense diplomacy aimed at reviving nuclear talks that have been suspended since June, when Israeli and US forces bombed Iranian nuclear facilities.
