The delivery of the new trams that the Canton Sarajevo (CS) bought from the Swiss company Stadler is ending.

Cantonal Minister of Transport Adnan Steta (SDP) announced that the penultimate of 15 new trams was delivered on Sunday night. During this month, the last tram will be delivered, which is in line with the agreed delivery schedule.

Steta pointed out that this will enable all new trams to be in traffic by the beginning of the upcoming school year. He noted that they were bought with citizens’ money and that this is the first acquisition of new trams after 40 years. The first new tram was delivered in December last year.

To recall, 15 new trams from the Swiss manufacturer Stadler cost 70 million BAM, which means that each vehicle is worth 4.6 million BAM. The money for the purchase was secured by a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Just last December, a contract was signed with Stadler for the purchase of 10 more new trams, which will bring the total number of new trams to 25.

The purchase of an additional 10 trams will cost 60 million BAM. In terms of characteristics, they will be similar to the originally purchased 15 trams. Delivery of these 10 trams will begin at the end of next year.
