The 19th Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (JBOI 2026) ended with the closing ceremony and awarding of medals in the Sarajevo City Hall. Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted this international competition for the first time, which brought together 55 young IT professionals from 13 countries.
Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented by two four-member teams. Dilan Tuzović, Faris Varnica, Jovan Žilić and Milan Goranović performed in the official team of BiH 1. Dilan and Faris won bronze medals, while Jovan received an Honorable Mention.
The guest team of BiH 2 consisted of Mahir Hodžić, Asaf Jusufbašić, Kristina Broćeta and Anđela Šinik. Mahir won the bronze medal. The total result of the eight Bosnia and Herzegovina competitors is three bronzes and one honorable mention.
During their stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the participants saw the sights of Sarajevo and visited Konjic, Jablanica and Mostar on a day trip. The program included a treasure hunt at Vrelo Bosne and cultural and artistic events through which young talents presented Sevdalinka and pop-rock music. Leaders of teams from other countries have made complimentary comments about the organization and program of the Olympics.
The JBOI 2026 organization demonstrated the capacity of Bosnia and Herzegovina to fulfill the organizational, technical and scientific requirements of international IT competitions.
The Association ‘Informatics Olympiad in Bosnia and Herzegovina’ is starting a new programming school cycle at the beginning of October with the aim of preparing a new national team for the 2027 season. Dilan Tuzović and Mahir Hodžić have the opportunity to win a place in the BiH team next year as well.
