The Cause of the Cracking of the largest Bridge in BiH was discovered

The rehabilitation of the largest and longest bridge on Corridor Vc is underway. Cracks were discovered last year on the highly demanding bridge over the Neretva River in Pocitelj. However, as it turns out, the discovered cracks do not compromise the stability of the bridge.

“The contractor is currently in the process of addressing the difficulties on the Pocitelj bridge, which is planned to be opened or put into operation in April, or at the latest by May 1st this year,” said Denis Lasic, director of the Public Company Motorways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH).

Allegedly, the installed steel cables caused cracks to appear in the curved bridge, which can be repaired. The construction of the highway in Herzegovina is continuing. In the next three years, all works are expected to be completed on the other sections as well.

A significant construction site in southern Herzegovina

“Herzegovina, that is, this southern part, was neglected in terms of construction. It will be a significant construction site for about 35 to 40 km in the next three years,” added Lasic.

With the construction of the section of Corridor Vc, Herzegovina will be better connected with the Adriatic ports, Dalmatia.

“When the highway is fully operational, it will connect BiH to Europe, make BiH more accessible, and, of course, a more attractive and competitive country in the economy,” said Prof. Dr. Marko Santic, President of the Chamber of Commerce of the FBiH.

Fortunately, the bridge near Pocitelj was not significantly damaged, which would have delayed the construction, according to construction experts. The completion of the entire Corridor Vc through BiH is expected by early 2030, Biznis Info writes.
