The Croatian Government is asking for an Explanation from BiH on the Trebinje Airport Project

The Trebinje Airport project, which could cost 100 million euros and more, has attracted the attention of the Croatian authorities, who are now asking Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to explain what exactly is planned to be built in that border area, eKapija writes.

This airport will be located in the karst field 14 km west of the center of Trebinje and will cover an area of over 300 hectares, and at the end of April, as it is reminded, an international competition was announced for the preparation of project-technical documentation.

The text adds that the Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure of Serbia, Tomislav Momirovic, confirmed at the end of April that Serbia had started communication with the representatives of Croatia regarding the control of the sky on the territory that will be covered by the future Trebinje Airport.

Momirovic then explained that Serbia does not want to finance the airport in Trebinje, which will cost between 80 and 100 million euros, and that the sky should be controlled by a third party, which means not BiH, not Serbia, but in this case Croatia.

Croatian institutions became active in the middle of this month regarding this issue. Namely, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of the Republic of Croatia, Tomislav Coric, asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH for official information about this project.

”In accordance with the provisions of Article 3 of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context, please provide us, as an interested state, with information on activities related to the construction of Trebinje Airport near Talez in Republika Srpska (RS), BiH, ” Coric wrote in a letter to the Minister Bisera Turkovic.

The information was also sent to the Minister in the Government of RS, Srebrenka Golic, and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, headed by Gordan Radman Grlic, was informed about everything, as was stated in the text.

For now, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH is not announcing, and according to Seebiz, “it is quite certain that Croatia will not give up when it comes to this project.”

According to that portal, the key question that arises is – who will fly from this airport, since, the surrounding network of airports is more than enough.
