The EU condemned Israel’s Restrictions on the Entry of humanitarian Aid into Gaza

The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for foreign and security policy, Josep Borrell, said that he condemned Israel’s restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza and called on Israel to facilitate the existing entrances, open all doors and provide a humanitarian corridor.

A statement from Borrell’s office on Israel’s attack on Palestinians waiting for aid in Gaza on February 29th called for an international investigation to shed light on the incident.

The statement said that, regardless of the outcome of the investigation, it is Israel’s responsibility to respect the rules of international law and ensure the distribution of humanitarian aid to the civilian population.

“Responsibility for this incident lies with the restrictions imposed by the Israeli army and the obstruction of humanitarian aid by violent extremists,” Borrell said, adding:

”This very serious incident highlights how restrictions on access to humanitarian aid contribute to hunger and disease, but also reveals the level of desperation that violence breeds. Continuous fighting and disregard for international humanitarian law will lead to complete chaos and prevent the distribution of humanitarian aid. We condemn Israel’s restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid and the opening of crossings.”

In violation of an interim ruling by the International Court of Justice, Israel continues its attacks on the Gaza Strip where, according to Palestinian health authorities, at least 30,320 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and 71,533 have been injured since October 7th.

On January 26th, following a genocide lawsuit filed by the Republic of South Africa, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel must refrain from any actions related to the killing, attacks and destruction of the residents of the Gaza Strip and take all measures to prevent genocide.
