The EU: Non-Paper on redrawing Borders of BiH does not exist

The members of the European Council did not distribute any “non-paper” on the redrawing of borders in the Western Balkans, nor was it discussed in any of the Council’s working bodies.

This was stated in the unsigned reply of the European Council to the parliamentary question of the Slovenian member of the European Parliament, Klemen Groselj.

“In the last few months, there has been a heated debate about the existence of a document not related to the redrawing of the borders of the Western Balkans, which was allegedly circulated through the European Union (EU) channels by Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa,” stated Groselj on the European Council’s official website.

Groselj added to the European Council that the subject of this document will not have far-reaching implications for the political stability of the countries of the Western Balkan, and thus significant repercussions on the policy of the EU in relation to the entire region.

“As an elected representative of the European Parliament and a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs who is deeply involved in the affairs of the Western Balkans on a daily basis, I believe that access to the information contained in this document would be very useful for my work. Therefore, I would like to ask for permission to access this document on borders in the Western Balkans, which is subject to strict rules of confidentiality and in full compliance with all relevant legal obligations, ” it was said in Groselj’s inquiry.

The European Council’s response states that “such a document does not exist”. The answer, however, has not yet been published on the official website of the mentioned institution.

To recall, the controversial document, which was published by the Slovenian media “necenzurirano.si” in April this year, proposed that Kosovo join Albania and that parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) entity Republika Srpska (RS) be divided and joined to Serbia, while parts of the entity of Federation of BiH, in which Croats predominate will be annexed to Croatia, Klix.ba writes.
