The EU supports 279 Farmers from Areas affected by Floods in BiH

A total of 279 farmers from Drvar, Fojnica, Jablanica, Kiseljak, Konjic, Kreševo, Mostar and Vareš who were affected by the floods in October 2024 received valuable material and advisory assistance through the EU project to support recovery from floods in BiH. This project, worth 20 million euros, is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Farmers were selected through a public call, in order to ensure transparency, proper needs assessment, and to direct assistance to those who need it most. All farmers who met the conditions of the public call could choose a support package that suited their needs. The packages included greenhouses, agricultural production inputs, beekeeping equipment or small machinery, such as motor cultivators and lawn mowers.

In addition to material assistance, beneficiaries are continuously provided with advisory support through group and individual lectures, in order to become familiar with the latest practices in agriculture, improve production and strengthen resilience to climate change.

The EU project to support recovery from floods in BiH is designed to respond to the needs of the population in communities directly affected by the natural disaster in October 2024, with a special focus on the socially and economically vulnerable population, the unemployed, people with disabilities and other marginalized groups.

In addition to supporting agricultural producers, the project envisages the rehabilitation and construction of housing facilities, the reconstruction of local utility infrastructure and public institutions, and support to small and medium-sized enterprises in the restoration of their businesses, the UNDP announced.
