The House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has voted on the Law on the Southern Interconnection, completing the parliamentary procedure for the adoption of this law, which the United States of America has described as of great interest to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The law was adopted with 51 votes in favor, 14 against, and four abstentions.

“This is an important moment for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States. It is an opportunity to resolve a pressing national security problem for both countries – BiH’s dependence on Russian gas,” the US Embassy announced ahead of the adoption.

On December 12, the House of Representatives of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the draft conclusions on the restructuring of the BH Gas company, which were previously proposed by the HDZ 1990 party and formally represented by Mario Karamatić.

The BH-Gas company announced yesterday that, in accordance with the decisions of the House of Representatives of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it has already begun the process of restructuring the company, all with the aim of creating a basis for the implementation of the Southern Interconnection project.

The draft law on the Southern Interconnection was adopted on December 12 after a lengthy debate in the House of Representatives.

HDZ representatives did not vote for the proposal, while members of other parties with a Croatian prefix abstained. All others voted “for”.

What is needed to continue the implementation of the project is the conclusion of an Agreement between BiH and the Republic of Croatia on the construction of the Southern Interconnection gas pipeline.

Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Staša Košarac recently threatened that he would not submit the draft basis for conducting negotiations for the procedure until the Eastern New Interconnection is unblocked by the BiH Presidency, Klix.ba writes.
