The Federation of BiH has 1.84 Million Working-age population

In the second quarter of this year, there were 1.84 million working-age population in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, of which 912,000 are economically active or 49.4 percent, and 934,000 people are out of the labor force or 50.6 percent.

According to the Labor Force Survey for the second quarter of 2024 of the Federal Bureau of Statistics, of the total working-age population, 773,000 were employed or 41.9 percent, and 139,000 were unemployed or 7.5 percent.

Compared to the first quarter of 2024, the number of employees increased by 0.5 percent, and the number of unemployed increased by 0.8 percent. Compared to the second quarter of 2023, the number of employees increased by 1.7 percent, and the number of unemployed increased by 6.1 percent.

The total number of active population increased by 0.6 percent compared to the first quarter of 2024. Compared to the second quarter of 2023, the number of active population increased by 2.3 percent.

The employment rate in the second quarter of 2024, compared to the first quarter of 2024, increased by 0.3 percentage points, while compared to the second quarter of 2023, it increased by 0.7 percentage points.

The unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2024, compared to the first quarter of 2024, remained the same at 15.2 percent, while compared to the second quarter of 2023, it increased by 0.5 percentage points.

In the structure of the active population, 560,000 are men or 61.4 percent, and 352,000 are women or 38.6 percent. In the structure of employed persons, 492,000 or 63.6 percent are men, while 281,000 or 36.4 percent are women. Of the total number of unemployed persons, 69,000 or 49.5 percent are men, and 70,000 or 50.5 percent are women.

In the second quarter of 2024, the activity rate was 49.4 percent, the employment rate was 41.9 percent, and the unemployment rate was 15.2 percent. Observed by gender, there are almost twice as many active men compared to the number of active women. The activity rate of men was 62.2 percent, while the activity rate of women was 37.2 percent.

The same applies to the employment rate, which was 54.6 percent for men and 29.8 percent for women. The unemployment rate for men was 12.3 percent, and for women 20.0 percent.
