The fire in the area of Mount Cvrsnica in the Blidinje Nature Park came close to residential buildings and the situation is not good, said Drago Martinovic, director of the Civil Protection Administration of the West Herzegovina County.

“The fire is spreading despite the fact that helicopters from the Armed Forces of BiH and Republika Srpska helped to extinguish it yesterday, as well as a canadair from the Republic of Croatia on two occasions. The fire is now located near residential buildings,” he added.

He pointed out that firefighters from neighboring municipalities and Sarajevo Canton came to help this morning, as well as a helicopter from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“I hope that with all available forces we will be able to stop the fire. Firefighters are active all the time, it’s really hard work. We have a fire road, now the fire is closer, so maybe it will be easier to put it out. So far, our firefighters had to reach 500 meters, even a kilometer, to be able to extinguish the fire,” said Martinovic.

He expressed the hope that with the help of firefighters from all over the world, they will be able to save residential buildings, as well as this priceless natural value.

“This is really a damage of enormous proportions,” he underlined, emphasizing that the call for air help was constantly being made.

“It’s just a question of when the Armed Forces of BiH, the Helicopter Service of the Republika Srpska and the canadair from Croatia will be able to come. Yesterday they were all there. This morning the helicopter of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina was here. We hope that the canadair will come today, but we have no information yet,” said the director of the Civil Protection Administration of the West Herzegovina County.

A large area was burned, according to estimates more than 200 hectares of forest and low vegetation.

Let us remind you that the municipality of Posusje declared a state of natural disaster two days ago due to the severe situation at the fire site and the huge damage to flora and fauna.
