Today, one of the biggest diplomatic gatherings of the year, the first Sarajevo Security Conference, begins in Sarajevo.
More than 200 guests will gather at the opening ceremony in the Sarajevo City Hall organized by the Initiative for Strategic Analysis and partner organizations from the United States of America, Great Britain, Germany and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The opening ceremony will be addressed by special guests of the conference, Senator Peter Welch and Senator Jean Shahin, who, before arriving in the Western Balkans region, announced that they are visiting with the intention of expressing their commitment to democratic development and strengthening partnerships with these countries.
“After the opening ceremony, two days of dynamic and interesting discussions await us. Seven thematic panels will be held, where we will talk about cyber security, transatlantic perspectives, geopolitics of the region, and cultural and religious factors that influence the political situation in the Western Balkans, but also throughout Europe. 40 speakers from 15 countries are participating in the conference, and we are extremely pleased to host them in Sarajevo,” said dr. Hikmet Karčić, director of the Initiative for Strategic Analysis and co-founder of the Sarajevo Security Conference.
According to him, the conference is the result of many years of dedication to academic work and international partnerships, and it is only the first project that will be actively worked on.
The first Sarajevo security conference was supported by the Ministry of Science and Education of the Federation of BiH, the Embassy of the United Kingdom and the Cyber Security Excellence Center, then the Institute for Peace of the United States of America, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Friedrich Ebert Dialogue Foundation for Southeast Europe. The conference is held under the auspices of Denis Bećirović, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
