The first snowfall of the season has been recorded in the countries of the region.

Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and Montenegro were affected by snow and rain in some areas.

Albania was hit by snow and rain in the past several hours. Snowfall affected several mountainous areas in the districts of Kukes, Shkoder, and Lezhe, while rain fell in the rest of the country.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, wrote on social media that the first snow this year in Albania came early.

“The Albanian Road Authority and road maintenance companies are fully prepared, despite the fact that winter maintenance officially begins on November 15th, according to the regulation,” she emphasized.

Meanwhile, according to the Port Authority of Durres, due to weather conditions on the Adriatic Sea, sailings scheduled for yesterday on the Durres – Bari and Bari – Durres routes were canceled.

According to the Albanian Institute of Geologists, yesterday and today in the northeast of the country at altitudes above 1.000 meters, precipitation will be in the form of snow.

“Today and tomorrow, average precipitation is expected in the regions of Korce and Gjirokaster, accompanied by storms, while in the regions of Shkoder, Kukes, Diber, Lezhe, Elbasan, Berat, and Vlore, light to locally average precipitation is expected,” the institute stated yesterday.

First snow in Kosovo

October brought the first snow of the season in the mountainous areas of Kosovo.

The morning of October 2nd covered the Sharr Mountains and those in the Dukagjin region in white after heavy snowfall.

Citizens shared photos of the snow on social media from the areas of Brezovica, Prevalac, Brod, as well as from the area of Strelac in the municipality of Decan.

The Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute had earlier warned of the possibility of snowfall in mountainous areas at the beginning of October.

Meanwhile, in the lower areas, it mostly rained.

First snow in the higher parts of North Macedonia

After rain, which fell in the lower parts of almost the entire region of the country, the first snowfall was recorded in the tourist centers of Kodra e Diellit and Mavrovo, as well as in the highest settlements in the Dibra region of North Macedonia.

Those responsible for road maintenance appealed that traffic in these parts of the country was proceeding without problems, but they recommend careful driving due to wet roads and landslides, especially in the Dibra region.

The Hydrometeorological Institute of North Macedonia announced that yesterday the weather was cloudy and cold with precipitation, which in the highest parts of the country turned into snow. The minimum temperature ranged from 6 to 11 degrees Celsius, while the maximum reached 7 to 13 degrees Celsius.

From Saturday, more stable weather is expected with low morning temperatures, while daytime temperatures will rise.

Snow in Montenegro

The first snow of the season also fell yesterday morning on Zabljak in Montenegro. In other parts of Montenegro, it was mostly cloudy, with light rain in some places.

Air temperatures ranged from 0 degrees on Zabljak to 16 degrees in Herceg Novi.

Mountains are white in Serbia

The higher parts of Mount Zlatar, the Vodena Poljana area, and the regions between Zlatar and Sjenica turned white in the morning hours.

There was also snow cover in some places on the roads, so drivers were advised to exercise caution while driving.

The first snow of the season also fell on Kopaonik. Snow fell heavily the previous night, while yesterday morning it was somewhat weaker.

Snow in Croatia

On Zavizan, on the southern side of the Vucjak peak, snow fell, and according to data from the State Hydrometeorological Institute, the temperature yesterday morning was two degrees below zero.

The snow cover was one centimeter, and snow was also expected on other mountain peaks yesterday.

In other parts of Croatia, rain and cloudy weather with sunny intervals and wind was forecast for yesterday.
