12952984_1147276105323344_1531048054_oThe Guardian published an interesting article that represents the capital of BiH as a tourist destination. Complemented with photographs that show the beauties of the city, there is also a recording of the “sound of Sarajevo”. The text was written by Dražen Huterer, an investigative journalist who reports on war crimes and transition period of BiH.

“In the humble BiH capital you can brush shoulders with starts, discover amazing street artists and see stunning buildings, but there is no escape from the reminders of the city’s history,” The Guardian wrote.

As any other foreign media, The Guardian also highlighted that in the old town the sounds of mosque, Cathedral, Orthodox Church and a synagogue, all located in 500 square meters, intertwine. The Academy of Fine Arts was selected as the most beautiful building, also described as a cult place where young people gather.

“It stands as a symbol of art, rebellion and free thinking,” the text states.

Among all talented people and groups, The Guardian chose the band Velahavle, for whom it is said that they love to experiment.

“Their style is a crossover of trip-hop and break sounds, and together with a few other bands, they keep the electronic music scene alive. Tired of people focusing on our differences rather than what binds us, they are outspoken about social injustices and anything that destroys culture and art. Their song Idemo Ludo, Idemo Jako became a hit, supporting the national football team during the 2014 World Cup,” it was written.

Author of the text also mentioned the negative sides to the city, such as the cable car and all controversies in connection with it (the withdrawal of donations due to unfulfilled conditions, deterioration of donated equipment), and mass protests dating two years back. The main statement is that nothing has changed. Also mentioned is the memorial park Vraca, demolished in the war and now deteriorating despite of providing incredible view of the city and being a fantastic location for picnics, concerts and major cultural events. Furthermore, the text mentions the ski jumps, Olympic hotels and bobsleigh track that have never been reconstructed.

“The days of our Olympic past seem almost like a myth,” the author says.

The home for elderly in Nedžarići, which has never been reconstructed nor completely built, was selected as the worst building.

The author also recommends the best street artists, musicians, social critics etc. The best recommendation for the city is the Sarajevo humor and beautiful nature that surrounds the capital.
