Imprisoned Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny is in a penal colony in Russia’s Yamal-Nenets region, his spokeswoman Kira Jarmish said on Monday.
She said the lawyer was able to meet with him on Monday, Reuters reports.
Navalny, a known critic of the Kremlin, was removed from the IK-6 penal colony in the Vladimir region, east of Moscow, in early December. His associates have since repeatedly expressed concern, saying they have no information about his whereabouts.
In August, he was sentenced to an additional 19 years in prison, on top of the eleven and a half years he had already served.
In 2021, Navalny voluntarily returned to Russia from Germany, where he was being treated for nerve agent poisoning. His supporters compare him to the late South African leader Nelson Mandela, and Russian authorities see him as a CIA-linked extremist who wants to destabilize Russia.
