Police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDC) began using drones yesterday to detect traffic violations such as exceeding the speed limit, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone while driving, and all other violations under the Law on the Basics of Traffic Safety on Roads in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
As stated in the announcement, the significance of using these systems in documenting traffic violations is primarily reflected in the fact that this method creates conditions for documenting violations that could not be detected through the regular work of police patrols, thereby significantly improving the repressive response of the ZDC police to traffic offenders.
“After the first phase of using these systems, a detailed analysis of all parameters will be conducted to determine their actual effectiveness and to modify their use in the coming period. The importance of this new, innovative approach to improving the safety of all traffic participants is undoubtedly unquestionable, as confirmed by today‘s official activities of the Minister of Internal Affairs of ZDC, Emir Vraco, and Police Commissioner Admir Gazic, who, during their official duties in the field, took the opportunity to directly observe the functioning of these systems and the work of police patrols on the main road in the Lasva area, City of Zenica,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs of ZDC statedyesterday.
At the end of last year, the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the ZDC, as part of the continued modernization and equipping of police structures, procured four advanced drones in addition to those previously acquired.
“The procurement of advanced drones is a result of monitoring standards in equipping police structures, and their primary operational purpose is the surveillance of large and inaccessible areas, tracking and locating suspects, searching for missing persons, securing major sports events, protests, documenting traffic accidents and monitoring traffic, responding to natural disasters, and all other crisis situations,” the announcement adds.
