The Netherlands adopted a Law prohibiting the denial and justification of Genocide and the Holocaust

The government of the Netherlands adopted a decision that will henceforth prohibit denying, trivializing or justifying the Holocaust, as well as other war crimes.

According to the Dutch public service, this decision was made by the outgoing government headed by Mark Rutte.

“Discrimination and racism are already prohibited, and denial of the Holocaust is already punishable, but it is not yet explicitly described in the law. This is provided for in this law. The prison sentence for denying the Holocaust can be imposed for up to one year,” write the Dutch media.

The explicit ban comes at the suggestion of the Minister of Justice, Dilan Yesilgoz.

“Unfortunately, the denial of this kind of horrible crimes against humanity is a daily occurrence. We regularly see the monster of anti-Semitism rearing its head again. This is extremely worrying and we cannot be without answers because the lessons of the Holocaust are not just lessons from history,” she said.

What is particularly important to emphasize is that the ban does not only apply to denying the Holocaust.

“Other offensive forms of approving, denying or trivializing genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes are expressly prohibited,” it said.

Namely, in the previous days, while the discussion was going on, it was stated that the reasons for making such a decision can also be found in the fact that a large number of people on the Internet deny genocide and the Holocaust, Klix.ba reports.
